About Us
Professor James "Ryan" Maddox began his martial arts career in 1988 at the United States Air Force Academy Youth Center's branch of Universal Kempo-Karate. He received his Student Black Belt in 1992 and was promoted to his current rank of Professor in July of 2021.
Professor Ryan has been sharing his love of the martial arts for over 30 years. In September 2010, he opened the TCA Branch of Universal Kempo-Karate (now located at The Road Church @ Chapel Hills). Two years later, in November 2012, he opened up the Monument Branch location as well.
Professor Ryan has been happily married to his wife, Amanda, since 2006. Together, they have four children, all of whom hold ranks in Universal Kempo-Karate. Together, their goal is to share their love of the martial arts with others. They take great pride in being a family-owned business and are invested in helping other families grow in their martial arts journey.
